Membership Applications

Full members of the APDTNZ must adhere to the APDTNZ Code of Ethics.

This means that they will:

  • Use humane, dog-friendly training methods

  • Behave in a professional manner towards their clients and colleagues

  • Participate in continued professional development to acquire new skills and learn about new advances in dog training

Associate members are not required to adhere to the Code of Ethics but are encouraged to while studying dog training ethics and science with the aim of becoming a Full Member as soon as possible.

Terms and Conditions of Membership

Membership is for the 12 month period from 1 April to 31 March. It is due for renewal on the 31st of March each year. Please note: A person can seek membership at any time of the year but the fee is not prorated. However, if a membership application is received between 1st January and 31st of March, a renewal will not be required for that year.

All applications for Full membership must be approved by the APDTNZ Committee. Once membership is granted, members are invited annually to renew their membership. Associate Members do not require committee approval.

For Full Members each annual renewal must be accompanied by agreement to continue to uphold the Code of Ethics and Rules of the Association. This is not required for Associate members, however all renewals must be accompanied by a renewal form so member information can be kept up to date. Members are asked to contact APDTNZ as soon as their contact details change.

Associate members can apply to upgrade to Full members at any time by submitting a Membership Renewal Form to the committee, marking the Upgrade box, agreeing to uphold the Code of Ethics and Rules of the Association and submitting payment.

If a membership is not renewed and remains unpaid for 1 month or longer, a person seeking membership will need to reapply to the APDTNZ Committee by using the Membership Application form and selecting “New”.

You will be notified by the APDTNZ membership secretary when your application has been approved. Once we have received your complete application, it will be taken to the next membership committee meeting. This voluntary committee meets monthly. So please be aware that, depending on when you submit, it may be 4-5 weeks before you are notified as to the success or otherwise of your application. If you are not successful, we will advise you of what you need to do to become a successful candidate.

Yearly Membership Fee: $55, First Membership Fee: $65 (includes $10 admin fee)

Credit Card payments are processed through a secure external payment system. No credit card information is stored by the APDTNZ.
